| Walking: |
The diversity of the landscape in the PO ensures some fabulous walks to suit everybody’s taste.
You don’t have to be super-fit to enjoy some of the breathtaking walks and
scenery in the Rousillon although if you choose to do
so there are some great challenges in the region for the seasoned walker. If you
like hiking then the mountains in the Eastern Pyrenees will suit you
down to the ground. The region starts at sea level and climbs up to over 9000
feet, with an incredibly rich and diversified plant and animal life. Begin
by approaching the Pyrenees hills gently in the olive
zone; this will take us along the coast of the Mediterranean with its salt
lakes, inland through the Mediterranean scrub and forests to the upper limits
of the vineyards. Then take off for higher climbs around the Canigou mountain
(2784m) which dominates the Roussillon plain, or
further on to the Carlit mountain (2921m ) which is
the highest peak in the Pyrenees Orientales.
You can discover the mountain landscape that reads like a book to unfold its
many secrets and traditions that are as old as the granite. Whatever your
intention, to climb a peak, to walk off the beaten track, or enjoy a picnic on
a bed of alpine grass...we can find you the right destination that will live up
to your expectations.
Walking in the Pyrenees Orientales is possible all
year round due its very mild winter climate and it is particularly enjoyable in
the spring and autumn seasons. www.randonades.com |
